Terrible photo of me, but I ran into Dan Whitford from Cut Copy at Future Music yesterday!
For a music journalist who’s spoken to plenty of famous people before, I really went full stupid. Couldn’t get any words out aside from “oh my God I love you guys!” WAHHHH.
It’s Sunday morning and I had an interview with Kryptic Minds to do at 1:40AM - it’s now just passed three and I’m heading to bed, only to wake up in four hours to head to work. Ouch. I don’t think summer is ready to let go of Melbourne for awhile yet, if the past few days are anything to go by - and this blissed-out, echoing mix by Vaccine is the much-needed cool change to drift in on this warm night. As XLR8R puts it:
A self-described Skinny Puppy and Portishead fan, Vaccine’s recordings blend jittery electronic elements with gothic ambient nuances and dubstep’s bass-led bottom end. While her mainly male dubstep cohorts’ songs lurch and stomp, Vaccine’s music drifts and shimmers via subtle melodies and echoed vocals. Her constructions aren’t necessarily main floor rave fodder, but rather, comedown music for a 6 a.m. all-back-to-mine.
ASC, Instra:mental, Kito, Telefon Tel Aviv and more? Goodnight, world.
I’ve chatted to the likes of Hudson Mohawke, Bonobo and J.D. Samson, lately - it’s been fun. CHECK IT OUT.
Here is a 9 track mini-album to download called Tussin Underwater:
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
Old drawing I found from a sketchbook I used when I was seventeen. Those were the days. (Taken with instagram)
Doubled-up inside, take awhile to share my grief.
‘Wandering Star’ by Portishead - scratch that, all of Dummy - is perfect for this cloud-strewn Saturday afternoon in Melbourne. Vinyl fuzz, tea, a cool breeze, and old-school trip-hop jams.
(Um. Maxinquaye by Tricky next? I SHOULD THINK SO.)
Seriously regretting the severe lack of money in my bank account at the time of this release. Massive Attack and Burial’s EP together Four Walls was not only a smoky, atmospheric piece of glorious ambient beats but also beautifully packaged and put-together. Wonder if I’ll ever find a secondhand copy?
