It’s Sunday morning and I had an interview with Kryptic Minds to do at 1:40AM - it’s now just passed three and I’m heading to bed, only to wake up in four hours to head to work. Ouch. I don’t think summer is ready to let go of Melbourne for awhile yet, if the past few days are anything to go by - and this blissed-out, echoing mix by Vaccine is the much-needed cool change to drift in on this warm night. As XLR8R puts it:

A self-described Skinny Puppy and Portishead fan, Vaccine’s recordings blend jittery electronic elements with gothic ambient nuances and dubstep’s bass-led bottom end. While her mainly male dubstep cohorts’ songs lurch and stomp, Vaccine’s music drifts and shimmers via subtle melodies and echoed vocals. Her constructions aren’t necessarily main floor rave fodder, but rather, comedown music for a 6 a.m. all-back-to-mine.

Oh Jesus, how did I miss this three months ago? Paul Rose (the man known as Scuba, head of operations at Hotflush Recordings) had a big ‘un in 2011 - dropping one of my favourite EPs of the year Adrenalin, readying a new album to come in February, relentless touring (including what was apparently a killer show in Melbourne), and this under his minimal-techno alias SCB? Fuck me.
